Here is the completed bench. I'm undecided regarding whether or not I should put a finish on this. What do you think?

I've decided to put the bench by the table saw (and use it as an outfeed table and a more accessable assembly table) rather than putting it in the corner under the TV. That makes me think I should add some workpiece clamping devices, like a twin screw end vise or a pattern maker's vise. Each of those is pretty pricey, but invaluable. I'll need to add bench dogs (holes drilled in the top with removable inserts that work with the end vise) to clamp large pieces for sanding and planing.

The shop is available for you to use if you want to build something. This is an open invitation to family and friends. If you need to stay overnight to get your job done, there is a nice apartment next door.

I think the table is great! Charlie liked playing underneath on the shelf. He spent a couple of hours testing out all the tools and the new bench last weekend. I think you should put some kind of finish on it to protect it, but I think the woud looks beautiful as it is!
Looks great as is - don't think it needs a finish as far as appearance goes since it's a work bench. Function is most important - so if it needs protection then go for it - and I'd add the extras you mentioned.
